ABOUT ABOUT

The practice of mindfulness; or the act of bringing the attention to the present moment, without judgment, has been the subject of much empirical and scientific study in Western culture over the past 15 years and is rapidly becoming a standard clinical treatment to manage stress and improve one's relationships and quality of life. Additionally, it is being taught in schools across the country to help children and emerging adults to manage the emotional, cognitive, and developmental tasks which they face.

Center co-director Don McCown will offer the keynote he just delivered at a two-day event sponsored by the Center for Health and Wellbeing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He will also share the ways IUP is bringing mindfulness to students, faculty and staff. Practice and dialogue are, of course, essential to this evening of exploring ways forward for contemplative practices at WCU.
