ABOUT ABOUT

“Contemplative Practices in Higher Education: Getting Down to the Details”

Donald McCown, PhD, and Christine Moriconi, PsyD, Co-directors of the Center, professors Don McCown and Chris Moriconi, will discuss experiences in bringing contemplation into the classroom, and into the university curriculum. How do you assess students’ academic outcomes in such classes?  What are the non-academic outcomes of classes that include training in mindfulness?  And compassion?  What does it take to create and have the university approve an undergraduate minor in contemplative studies? These are just some of the questions McCown and Moriconi will address through their own research, experiences, and reflections. Of course, the seminar will include time to explore meditation practice—you’ll learn some practices that students find most compelling.
