This experiential clinical workshop displays how Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction’s body scan differs from other somatic interventions used for relaxation. Demonstration and qualitative analysis reveal the unique languaging this practice entails.
Dr. Michelle Mamberg, Associate Professor, Psychology, Bridgewater University
Dr. Mamberg received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Clark University. As Associate Professor at Bridgewater State University, she teaches undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Her qualitative research focuses on the teaching and learning of MBSR. Dr. Mamberg’s “Self-in-Talk” lab analyzes interviews with MBSR practitioners to identify unique constructions of self within their discourse. She is also conducting discursive analyses of Body Scan practice instructions.
